It’s a question usually asked when someone is acting outrageous. But when it comes to Ginger Boyle, it’s a question that can be answered by saying Planet Salon, her sophisticated Melrose salon. For 30 years, Ginger has provided advanced training to industry professionals from one end of the planet to the other. Her own work has been on display in magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and Vogue, and she is forever seeking the elusive “what’s next.”
She started her career working for Aveda in the company’s Minneapolis headquarters where she quickly learned to channel her artistic talents and passions. She learned to follow her heart and in doing so, she grew as a stylist. Much of that growth came from having a strong mentor. In Ginger’s case, it was Aveda’s founder Horst Rechelbacher. It was working with and for Horst that she learned how to provide encouragement and how to put people in a position to succeed.
Ginger followed her heart again when she moved to Los Angeles and met the man who would become her husband, industry icon Robert Lynden. Shortly thereafter, she opened her own salon.
Having her own salon taught her to give up control and find alternative solutions for when something isn’t working the way it’s supposed to. What is “supposed to” after all? There is very little “supposed to” in the beauty industry. There is only possibility and chance. It’s why Ginger has opened her salon to the possibilities of street art and young artists selling their unique brand of graffiti at Planet Salon. She has channeled her Midwestern roots to make sure her salon is always friendly, fun, and creative.
During the recession, Ginger found alternative solutions to keep the salon lucrative while providing clients with the incredible experience they’ve come to expect when they step into Ginger Boyle’s planet. She offered free scalp and hand massages, and more.
Seeing trends. Helping others evolve. Teaching and sharing. Staying passionate. These are the traits that Ginger Boyle possesses. They are characteristics she shares with her stylists, her clients, and you.
Take a listen.
