Top 3 Diets for 2018
It’s that time of year again. After all of the celebrating and (let’s be frank) imbibing, we are all probably making strides to implement our New Years resolutions. And according to online polls the most popular have to do with one thing: getting healthier and/or losing weight. It makes it easier to know you’re not alone in your fight to work off the holiday’s much needed poor judgment and indulgences. All in all, the New Year should bring a renewed spirit of health and wellness and it’s not just diets that help. Meditation, self-reflection and taking better care of our over-all mind body connection should always be a priority in our lives.

However, for those of us in need of some additional inspiration find out what according to US News and World Reports are the top 3 popular diets for the coming year:

Mediterranean Diet: a well-balanced eating plan, boosts longevity and helps prevent a number of chronic diseases. A diet based on the eating habits of Greece, Southern Italy and Spain, the main philosophy is to eat more fish and healthy carbohydrates such as legumes and leafy green vegetables, with less red meat and with a focus on olive oil as a healthy fat. The Mediterranean Diet is purported to lower the risk of heart disease and early death while the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, and several chronic diseases. If the Italians are doing it, it can’t be half bad, right?
DASH Diet: originally developed as an eating style to help lower blood pressure, it has been found to be a fabulous plan for weight loss. More and more American’s are having to address issues with blood pressure and hypertension and this diet directly address these issues with the added benefit of helping people to lose weight. It’s a plant-focused diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, nuts, with low-fat and non-fat dairy, lean meats, fish, and poultry, mostly whole grains, and heart healthy fats. You fill up on delicious fruits and vegetables, paired up with protein-rich foods to quench your hunger. Sounds like a great way to both get in shape and make healthier food choices!
Weight Watchers: This is the number one choice for people who simply want to lose weight and get in shape and the reason could be simply that it isn’t so much a diet as a lifestyle-change program. It can help you learn how to eat healthier and get more physical activity, so you lose the weight for good. With the many celebrity endorsements, including the recent Oprah campaign, it’s hard to ignore its popularity.
