What do the American Made Beauty verified seals mean?

All brands that apply to American Made Beauty must first meet these standards:
1) Started and HQ in the US.
2) 100% of staff is in the US for brands under $5 Million and no more than 40% of staff is outside of the US for companies with $5Million or more.
3) If brand is a product it must be made in a FDA compliant manufacturing facility. If brand is a service the services are performed in the US.
4) The product labeling must meet FDA packaging requirements.
5) Any claims made must meet FDA and FTC requirements for substantiation.
6) Online stores must show ingredient list before consumer makes a purchase.

All brands then qualify for one of two verification seals: Manufactured in USA or Made in USA

Manufactured in USA – The raw materials that are used to make a beauty product are mixed together in a qualified cosmetic manufacturing facility located in America and substantially all of the elements that go into the product are also made in America.
Made in USA – The raw materials that are used to make a beauty product are mixed together in a qualified cosmetic manufacturing facility located in America and 90% of the retail value of the product or greater comes from elements that are also made in America.

Until now there has not been a third party to verify that these protections are being followed by brands marketing to US consumers. American Made Beauty offers that service.

Products made in American are safe and regulated.

We often hear people shouting that the cosmetic industry isn’t regulated and American Made Beauty is passionate about changing this false perception.

The standards set by both the FDA and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) allow consumers to make informed choices about their health and beauty product before they make a purchase. These standards also help manufacturers and beauty brand owners produce good quality products that are safe.

Why is this important?

For cosmetics this means that the product is being produced in a facility that meets Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for the use of Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) ingredients and good manufacturing practices (GMP) standards.

American Made Beauty requires that the product meets the standards set by the FDA for labeling. That means proper ingredient listings and disclosures of the purpose, intended use and claims.

We also review company’s websites that are offering products to ensure that proper labeling disclosures are visible.

Only after review is the appropriate verification seal awarded.

• Our goals is to raise awareness of the value of American manufacturing and quality standards.
